Distinguishing Features of the Work

Supervises the Biological Studies programs of the Bureau of Surveillance and Field Studies as an assistant to the Bureau Director.

Direct responsibility is assumed for planning the Board’s statewide biological monitoring program, benthic surveys and fish kill investigations, for scheduling work done within the Division, and for assigning the methods by which the work is to be done and for the quality of work performed. Also responsible for the review of data and, where appropriate, revise the monitoring program by the addition or deletion of stations, including, but not limited to, the determination of equipment and personnel needs necessary to perform the required work and for determination of the budgetary needs of the division for sustaining and expanding the division’s programs. Will be familiar with the work of the other divisions of the Bureau and may be expected to act in the absence of the Bureau Director when necessary.

Duties are performed with considerable latitude, but supervision is available from the bureau Director.

 

Qualification Guide

Graduation from an accredited college or university with emphasis in geology, biology, or engineering, and/or the ability to demonstrate, as appropriate for the position, any combination of training or experience the following knowledge, skills, and abilities: thorough knowledge of engineering, biological, or geological principles and practices as applied to water quality and water pollution control; considerable knowledge of State and Federal laws relating to water quality standards; ability to meet the public and speak effectively before lay and professional groups; ability to negotiate solutions to problems; ability to express technical concepts clearly and concisely both orally and in writing; knowledge of wastewater treatment processes and water technology.
