Distinguishing Features of the Work

Plans, organizes, and directs the statewide activities of the Virginia Outdoors Foundation.

Reports to the Director of the Virginia Historic Landmarks Commission.

The duties include developing programs to acquire and preserve lands, negotiating easements, exploring sources of funds, and meeting with groups and individuals to solicit gifts of money, securities, and land. The job also involves responsibility for soliciting non-monetary gifts, investing money, managing securities and land. Other duties require compilation of data for reports and information programs, and the organization and conducting of seminars, training sessions, and Board of Trustees meetings.

 

Qualification Guide

Knowledge of preserving and protecting Virginia’s natural environment. Ability to write and speak effectively, meet people and deal persuasively with groups and individuals. Ability to work with specialists involved in planning and implementing preservation and open space programs.

Graduation from an accredited college or university with major studies in public administration, law, regional and natural resource planning, or a closely related field, and/or experience in public administration or resource planning indicating direct application of the preceding knowledge and abilities.
