Distinguishing Features of the Work

Plans, coordinates, and directs the enforcement of the game, inland-fish, and laws in the State.

Responsibility is attached for directing the work of the Game Warden Supervisors, preparing and conducting formal training sessions for all Game Wardens, keeping the public informed of the game, inland-fish, and dog laws and of changes in these laws, fostering public cooperation with the law-enforcement program, and for recommending changes in the laws and regulations which would facilitate law enforcement. State policies and the objectives of the enforcement program are determined in consultation with an administrative supervisor and a governing board. Work is evaluated through review of reports on the division's activities, by observation of the incumbent’s work, and from public reaction to the law-enforcement program.

Examples of duties characteristic of positions in this class:

  1. Studies periodic reports of the Game Wardens to determine how effectively the various areas of the State are being worked; discusses with the Game Warden Supervisors how the law enforcement might be improved.
  2. Discusses law enforcement problems with Game Warden Supervisors and Game Wardens; suggests ways of resolving the problems; recommends to Executive Director regulations and laws which would facilitate law enforcement.
  3. Supervises the maintenance of the inventory of all equipment assigned to the Law Enforcement Division; periodically reviews this record to insure that all equipment is accounted for; studies the inventory to determine how the available equipment may be more effectively utilized.
  4. Plans, organizes, and conducts training sessions consisting of addresses, discussion periods, and reports for all the Game Wardens in the State.
  5. Compiles annually a handbook or pamphlet containing all laws and regulations relating to hunting, fishing and trapping.
  6. Compiles and prepares various leaflets concerning the laws and the law enforcement program for distribution to the public.
  7. Prepares budget estimates for the Law Enforcement Division.
  8. Prepares reports concerning the activities of the Law Enforcement Division.
  9. Meets with various organizations and groups throughout the State delivering addresses and answering questions concerning the game and inland-fish law-enforcement program.

 

Qualification Standards

Completion of a standard college course or its equivalent and five years of experience in game and inland-fish law-enforcement work, two years of which must have been in a supervisory capacity. Additional supervisory experience in enforcement or game work may be substituted for college training on an equivalent time basis.

Ability to plan, coordinate, and direct the work of others, ability to work effectively with public officials and the public.
