Distinguishing Features of the Work

Manages and directs the Abandoned Mine Land Program.

Areas of responsibility include establishment of program priorities; review and interpretation of Federal and State laws, rules, and regulations; maintenance of AML Inventory Program; operation of bond forfeiture program; and budget preparation. Incumbent is responsible for supervision of professional/technical and other support staff and for making recommendations to the Deputy Commissioner under whose general guidance the duties are Performed.

 

Qualification Guide

Graduation from an accredited college or university with major studies in forestry, agronomy, geology, natural sciences or related fields and extensive experience in the areas of conservation and/or reclamation to include supervisory responsibility over a wide array of professional and technical personnel.

Progressively responsible experience and proven competence in management assignments may substitute for education, provided there is no substitution for knowledge of fiscal and reclamation techniques, the ability to comprehend and interpret Federal and State coal mining laws and regulations, and the ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.
