Distinguishing Features of the Work

Assists in supervising the operation and maintenance of a major State park.

Is responsible for assisting in the planning and directing of the park staff in a wide variety of assignments dealing with maintenance, repairs, development and security of the park resources. During the operating season, the incumbent coordinates traffic control safety and law enforcement in all park areas, inspects concession operations for compliance with regulations, establishes priorities in conformity to needs of the park guests and handles complaints. The incumbent also assists in the planning and supervision of out-of-season maintenance, repair and construction projects. In the absence of the superintendent, the incumbent is charged with the supervision of all park operations.

Incumbent performs duties and responsibilities under the general supervision of a Park Superintendent B.

 

Qualification Guide

Knowledge of the methods, practices, tools and materials used in upkeep of a diverse recreational/park setting. Ability to train and supervise people as well as effectively work with the public. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

High school graduation or equivalent, and considerable experience in grounds keeping, maintenance, construction or other work related to the management of a recreational or park environment. Additional education in park administration, forestry, wildlife management or a closely related field may be substituted for experience.
