Distinguishing Features of the Work

Supervises maintenance, repair and operation as well as the enforcement of rules and regulations in a State park.

Is responsible for the supervision of park rangers and temporary employees in duties relating to the maintenance and upkeep of the park and the enforcement of park rules and regulations; work schedules, employee safety, park security and materials and equipment used in the assigned area. May supervise the entire operation of a small park area or function as an assistant to the park superintendent in a more complex environment.

Incumbent performs duties and responsibilities under the supervision of a Park Superintendent to whom the incumbent reports.

 

Qualification Guide

Knowledge of the methods, practices, tools and materials used in the maintenance and repair of park facilities and equipment. Ability to keep records and reports, to supervise and to maintain effective working relationships with the public. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

High school graduation, or equivalent, and demonstrated progressive experience in grounds keeping, maintenance, construction or other work related to the upkeep and operation of a historic or recreational area. Additional education in park administration, forestry, wildlife management or a closely related field may be substituted for experience provided no substitution is made for a basic knowledge of maintenance supervision.
