Distinguishing Features of the Work

Supervises grading and inspection program activities in a state region for a specific commodity program such as livestock, poultry and egg, fruits, vegetables, peanuts.

Is responsible for coordinating grading and inspection; personnel assignments and scheduling; planning and implementing field procedures and standards; working with federal, state, and local authorities, commodity groups, organizations and associations. Implements standards and certifications approved by the state or USDA. Trains new employees and conducts refresher courses for other employees relating to work assignments.

General direction is received from a higher level supervisor who coordinates statewide programs.

 

Qualification Guide

Licensure/certification by the State and U.S. Departments of Agriculture. Knowledge of section programs and operations. Skill in employee communications and training techniques. Skill in personnel supervision. A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major studies in a related area is preferred.
