Distinguishing Features of the Work

Serves as State Entomologist and performs such duties as specified by statute through the director of the division of regulatory services. Recommends to the director rules and regulations to be promulgated by the Board of Agriculture under which the entomologist proceeds to investigate, control, eradicate and prevent the dissemination of insect pests, plant pests and plant diseases. Makes recommendation to the director regarding the prohibition of shipment or planting of infested plants and the establishment of quarantines of infested areas and movement of products from such areas. Issues notices of approved quarantines.

Confers with experiment stations and other State and Federal officials on subjects relating to plant pests and diseases and methods of control. Makes recommendations for consideration of director on methods and equipment to be used in the eradication or control of plant pests and diseases and provides technical assistance and advice in the implementation of approved programs.

Certifies nursery stock for shipment. Directs the work of the State Apiarist.

 

Qualification Standards

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree in entomology or related subjects and five years of experience in entomology or plant pathology.
