Distinguishing Features of the Work

Inspects and tests all types of commercial weighing and measuring devices, and check-weighs pre-packaged commodities, livestock and tobacco in the enforcement of the Weights and Measures Law, the Public Weighmaster Law, and the Sale of Burley Tobacco Law.

Responsibilities include: type-approving new devices; explaining to installers and repairers specifications, tolerances and regulations; assisting violators in correcting difficulties; check-weighing a variety of bulk deliveries such as feed, fertilizer, lime, coal, sand, etc.; issuing stop-sale notices in cases of law violations; investigating consumer complaints; obtaining data supporting violations, obtaining warrants through the Commonwealth Attorneys, and presenting court evidence.

Reports to a Regional Supervisor.

 

Qualification Guide

Graduation from high school. Ability to learn and interpret laws and regulations, conduct investigations, and explain findings to violators, Commonwealth Attorneys, and others. Ability to plan duties and to train other inspectors. Mechanical aptitude skills and physical ability to lift as required.
