Distinguishing Features of the Work

Supervises a section or a large bureau functional unit of the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.

Duties include the responsibility for establishing and monitoring program goals and objectives, work scheduling, fiscal affairs direction, and personnel leadership. Utilizes information obtained from industry and public contacts to plan future program endeavors. Keeps abreast of state and federal laws, regulations, and pending legislation relating to program operations.

Overall direction and guidance is received from the bureau chief, or assistant division director.

 

Qualification Guide

Management skills and experience including planning, fiscal affairs, personnel supervision and pub1ic relations. The ability to meet applicable U. S. and Virginia Department of Agriculture certification and licensing requirements where needed. Knowledge of section and activity programs and operations is desired. A bachelor’s degree with major studies in a field related to the particular position is preferred.
