Distinguishing Features of the Work

Oversees a combination of security and maintenance functions on a 24-hour shift basis in a state facility.

May supervise a combination of security and custodial personnel. Reports to a buildings and grounds or other administrator.

The work may be performed in a museum, research laboratory, or other type of facility where responsibility exists for a variety of duties that may encompass the safeguarding of art works, scientific equipment and experiments, and the supervision of routine security and housekeeping functions.

Controls access of personnel into classified or restricted areas. Makes or oversees the making of periodic security checks for illegal entry, fire, and the proper functioning of utilities and experimental equipment. May perform routine laboratory duties to insure the continuity of experiments in progress. May perform other minor maintenance, and supervise a staff of security and custodial personnel.

 

Qualification Guide

Knowledge of the methods and procedures for securing facilities and their contents. Ability to perform and/or oversee security checks on personnel, equipment and facilities. Ability to perform minor equipment maintenance. Ability to supervise others as required.

Graduation from high school, and experience related to the position’s duties or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Must be able to pass a physical examination and obtain security clearance where required.
