Distinguishing Features of the Work

Administers agency safety/security functions.

The responsibilities may involve managing a combination of safety and security activities, or may be concentrated in safety matters alone. Duties may include such things as personnel recruitment, employment and training; direction of police and fire protection services; devising plans to meet agency safety needs and legal requirements; developing and presenting safety training for agency personnel; serving as chairman of the agency safety committee; conferring on facility construction and renovation; inspecting facilities and arranging for fire or other safety drills; advising on insurance matters; providing liaison with Federal and local authorities; and maintaining appropriate records and reports.

May report to a higher level safety/security professional or other agency administrator.

 

Qualification Guide

Graduation from high school supplemented by appropriate training and experience in safety or security matters.

Knowledge of safety or security principles, techniques, laws and regulations. Ability to develop and present institutional plans and programs. Ability to select, train and direct necessary staff. Ability to prepare and maintain necessary reports and records.
