Distinguishing Features of the Work

Provides direction and supervision to residents in an institutional living facility.

Work may be performed in a correctional or rehabilitation environment, and may include duties such as assigning quarters and providing orientation to new residents; issuing and repairing linens; establishing housekeeping standards, ordering supplies, and directing cleaning find maintenance; assisting handicapped residents; participating in recreational activities; counseling residents and resolving routine problems; discussing residents’ welfare with parents or relatives; and general oversight of dormitories, equipment and facilities.

May report to a facility administrator or other professional.

 

Qualification Guide

Knowledge of housekeeping methods, procedures, and equipment. Ability to enforce rules and regulations, and to resolve routine problems. Ability to work with maladjusted or handicapped persons. Ability to keep basic records.

Graduation from high school and experience indicating direct application of the preceding knowledge and abilities, or a combination of equivalent experience and training.
