Distinguishing Features of the Work

Serves under the Corrections Adult Division Assistant Director while administering a furlough program for all institutions and units within the Division of Adult Services.

The work involves heading a central committee while reviewing all furlough applications, case histories, and making decisions as to whether a furlough is to be granted. Responsibility is assigned for coordinating the efforts to determine, establish, and implement guidelines by which the furlough program will be administered. Policies, procedures, and regulations will be interpreted to provide program w1ifot~nity throughout all institutions within the Division.

Examples of duties characteristic of positions in this class:

  1. Reviews furlough applications from all institutions and units within the Division. This numbers approximately 450 per month.
  2. Determines through record research. ICC evaluations, and from institutional counselor recommendations whether or not individuals are eligible and/or deserving of a furlough.
  3. Makes the final decision with committee members as to whether the individual will or will not receive a furlough.
  4. Supplies the Corrections Adult Division Deputy Director with supporting information when individuals appeal decisions.
  5. Notifies all local last enforcement authorities prior to beginning a furlough in order to determine whether or not there is any resistance from within tile community.
  6. Serves on the Division inspection team which visits institutions throughout the Division to determine and/or assist the institutional staff in meeting Division minimum standards in the administration of the furlough program.
  7. Works in conjunction with the Division central office, central classification board, and the Division administration in determining policies and guidelines for furlough cases.

 

Qualification Standards

Graduation from an accredited college or university with major studies in the behavioral or social science field and 3 years of related experience, one year of which must have been in a supervisory or administrative capacity. Additional related experience may be substituted for education on an equivalent time basis, four years of which must have been in such areas as classification, treatment, security, administration, or in a supervisory capacity.
