Distinguishing Features of the Work

Performs a variety of administrative duties in a warden’s office, or in a large correction facility medical unit.

May supervise a varying number of technical and clerical support personnel. Work is performed under the general supervision of a Corrections Warden or Assistant Warden.

Warden’s Office

Major duties include answering public, legislative, employee and inmate inquiries regarding facility policies and operations; conducting investigations and recommending responses to inmate grievances; and studying policies and procedures and recommending changes. May meet with community groups, and serve as coordinator of volunteers. May chair various facility committees, and oversee employee relations functions.

Medical Unit

Provides administrative supervision for medical professionals and paraprofessionals and for clerical support staff who furnish medical services for inmates. Assesses needs and compiles budget requests. Coordinates inpatient and outpatient services. Schedules staff to provide around-the-clock coverage. Arranges for adequate infirmary security coverage. Investigates and responds to inmate complaints or grievances.

 

Qualification Guide

Knowledge of office and supervisory principles and practices. Ability to develop policies and procedures. Ability to perform research and write reports. Ability to relate to a variety of individuals, and to supervise the work of others.

Graduation from a college or university with studies related to the position’s duties, and related work experience preferably including supervisory experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
