CLASS CONCEPT/FUNCTION

This is the first class in the Warehouse series. Positions in this class receive, stock, and distribute a wide variety of materials, supplies and equipment which may include hazardous material in a warehouse or warehouse complex. The duties are repetitive in nature, physically demanding and typically require the wearing of appropriate safety and protective clothing. This class is distinguished from the Warehouse Specialist class by the latter's responsibility for either acting as a lead worker and providing instruction and guidance; operating a forklift or other power equipment on a regular and exclusive basis; or performing warehouse duties predominantly in a freezer area. The Warehouse series is distinguished from the Storekeeper series by the formers' concentration on shipping and receiving bulk items rather than distributing commodities to end-users; reliance on motorized equipment such as forklifts and pallet trucks; and its handling of the full range of commodities used by an agency or institution.
