Distinguishing Features of the Work

Supervises the statewide delivery of a variety of merchandise from a large central warehouse to users which include state agencies and local government units.

Provides direction and supervision to truck drivers. May supervise warehouse personnel as required. Reports to the Warehouse Manager Assistant.

Assigns, reviews and adjusts routes to ensure proper customer service. Assigns drivers to routes. Coordinates deliveries with established receiving periods for various customers. Advises customers in advance of future schedule plans. Investigates and resolves complaints regarding shipment errors or damaged goods.

Maintains records of drivers’ days off and overtime. Arranges for substitute drivers as necessary. Insures that truck tractors and trailers are available and in safe operating condition.

Supervises central warehouse operations in the absence of the Warehouse Manager Assistant by overseeing the receipt and storage of incoming merchandise, and choosing orders to be picked for loading and delivery. Contacts freight companies to obtain lowest charges for incoming goods delivery.

 

Qualification Guide

Knowledge of operating procedures, including traffic/delivery procedures, in a large warehouse facility. Ability to work with outside carriers. Ability to supervise the work of others. Ability to efficiently perform a variety of record keeping tasks.

Graduation from high school and experience, including supervisory experience, related to the duties of the position. Training and experience indicating possession of the preceding knowledge and abilities may substitute for high school graduation.
