CLASS CONCEPT/FUNCTION

This is a single class series, responsible for the safe and efficient operation of passenger and freight elevators. This class is distinguished from the Elevator Maintenance Mechanic class by the latter's responsibility to repair elevators, dumbwaiters and wheelchair lifts.

 

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE WORK

Complexity of Work: Performs work of routine difficulty. Positions in this class spend the majority of time operating passenger and freight elevators. Additional responsibilities include reporting malfunctions, and providing general information regarding the location of offices to passengers.

Supervision Given: Supervision typically is not a factor.

Supervision Received: Receives general supervision from a Hospital Attendant Supervisor or other administrative class.

Scope: Work activities are limited to the operation of elevators in a single location.

Impact of Actions: Work can either negatively or positively impact the proper and safe operation of passenger and freight elevators.

Personal Contacts: Frequent contacts with passengers for the purpose of providing directions or general information about the agency.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Knowledge: Working knowledge of passenger and freight elevators; and of general office locations within the agency.

Skills: Working skill in the operation of elevators.

Abilities: Demonstrated ability to deal with staff and the public in a courteous manner.

 

QUALIFICATIONS GUIDE*

Licenses or Certification: None.

Education or Training: Completion of elementary school.

Level and Type of Experience: None required for entrance into this class.

An equivalent combination of training and experience indicating possession of the preceding knowledge, skills and abilities may substitute for this education and experience.
