CLASS CONCEPT/FUNCTION

This is the fourth class in the Laundry Supervisory series. Positions in this class direct a laundry services facility that provides services to multiple facilities operated by an agency. Duties require long-range planning, establishing production quotas, and supervising subordinate managers who must supply the needed services to the facilities on a daily basis. This class is distinguished from the Laundry Manager Senior by its responsibility to provide services to multiple facilities located statewide.

 

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE WORK

Complexity of Work: Performs work of unusual difficulty in the direction of a complex laundry facility. Typical duties include the long-range planning and organizing of daily laundry operations; reviewing production records to ensure service, efficiency, and quality control; making assignments to subordinate laundry managers; preparing annual operating budget for laundry operation; interviewing, hiring, training, and evaluating employees or directing this function; investigating and resolving service complaints regarding the laundry operation; coordinating schedules with customers; coordinating delivery schedules; preparing cost estimates for repairs and improvements; and coordinating inspections with licensing boards.

Supervision Given: Directs plans, schedules, assigns and evaluates the work of Laundry Supervisors, Laundry Managers, Supervisors, Laundry Workers, and inmate labor.

Supervision Received: Receives general directions from an agency, facility, or Buildings and Grounds Manager.

Scope: Activities affect the operation of the laundry facility and the availability of clean laundry to multiple facilities located statewide.

Impact of Actions: Activities impact the agency's budget, the operational schedules within multiple facilities, and the overall image of the assigned facility.

Personal Contacts: Frequent internal contacts with facility staff statewide to plan and coordinate schedules and deliveries. Frequent external contact with vendors regarding the procurement of supplies and equipment.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Knowledge: Extensive knowledge of correctional enterprises standards of operation, industrial laundry equipment, and management principles and practices including budgeting, procurement, and supervision.

Skills: None identified for this class.

Abilities: Demonstrated ability to direct a statewide laundry operation, to plan, manage, and evaluate the work of subordinates; and to prepare and manage budgets and procurement functions.

 

QUALIFICATIONS GUIDE*

Licenses or Certification: None.

Education or Training: High school graduation or equivalent with training in the operation of industrial equipment and supplies.

Level and Type of Experience: Extensive management experience in industrial laundry operations and equipment, to include experience in budgeting, procurement, and training.

An equivalent combination of training and experience indicating possession of the preceding knowledge and abilities may substitute for this education and experience.
