CLASS CONCEPT/FUNCTION

This is a single class series, responsible for providing dry cleaning services to an agency or institution. The work requires the utilization of commercial dry cleaning technique for the cleaning and precise pressing of military uniforms and related apparel. Duties include the maintenance of inventory records and dry cleaning equipment.

 

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE WORK

Complexity of Work: Performs work of moderate difficulty. Duties include dry cleaning and pressing wool uniforms. This involves loading uniforms into the dry cleaning washers, and pressing them using dry cleaning pressing equipment. Positions collect summer storage clothing items, prepare charge tickets, maintain records for inventory purposes, and performs routine maintenance on dry cleaning equipment.

Supervision Given: Supervision is not a factor.

Supervision Received: Receives general supervision from a Purchase and Stores Supervisor or other administrative class that supervises Dry Cleaning and Tailoring Services.

Scope: Work affects direct services provided to all students.

Impact of Actions: The appearance of the students must meet strict regulations and standards. Uniforms must be cleaned in a timely manner, and must meet precise pressing regulations.

Personal Contacts: Frequent internal contact with the student body while providing dry cleaning services.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Knowledge: Some knowledge of dry cleaning techniques and general laundry operations.

Skills: Working skill in the operation of laundry and dry cleaning equipment.

Abilities: Demonstrated ability to operate laundry and dry cleaning equipment, to read and write, to maintain cleaning equipment, and to follow precise pressing instructions.

 

QUALIFICATIONS GUIDE*

License or Certification: None.

Education or Training: Graduation from high school or equivalent.

Level and Type of Experience: Some experience in dry cleaning or general laundry operations.

An equivalent combination of training and experience indicating possession of the preceding knowledge, skills and abilities may substitute for this education and experience.
