Distinguishing Features of the Work
Supervises a buildings and grounds program at a state institution with a resident population of approximately 300 to 500.
The duties involve supervising a buildings and grounds program of limited scope which includes services such as heating, buildings maintenance, grounds, and related services. Direct supervision is exercised over a small number of journeyman level trades and semi-skilled employees. A1so included at this level are assistant director positions having responsibility for one or more phases of the overall maintenance program such as buildings maintenance, grounds maintenance, and related services at an institution with a population normally exceeding 2,000. In addition, positions assigned responsibility for assisting in the planning and estimating of construction projects at larger state institutions are assigned to this class. Supervision is received from a business manager or higher level buildings and grounds supervisor who makes assignments and reviews the work during performance and upon completion.

Qualification Standards
Completion of high school and at least three years of experience at the supervisory level in a building trade. Experience at the journeyman level may be substituted for education on an equivalent time basis, or college education or technical training pertaining to engineering or a related field may be substituted for the required experience.
Considerable knowledge of at least one of the building trades; general knowledge of several of the building trades; ability to plan, assign, and supervise the work of a varied group of skilled, semi-skilled, and allied workers.
