Distinguishing Features of the Work

Serves as the principal assistant to a Printing Services Administrator B in a large full-service agency printing, copying and mailing function with a supporting staff exceeding 40 full-time equivalent positions.

Exercises supervision directly or through subordinate unit heads over a staff that includes technical specialists, skilled craft workers, and other supporting personnel. Reports to a Printing Services Administrator B.

Is responsible for daily departmental operations, including coordination of the various departmental sub-units, and jobs completion and quality. Assists the Administrator B in policies, procedures and operating budget development and administration. Has the immediate responsibility for operation of the copy centers and contract postal unit.

Administers a printing department management information system encompassing managerial level financial analysis and accounting reports, printing production standards development, job costing and unit pricing, and job estimating systems.

Performs a variety of administrative duties including handling routine correspondence, approval of routine purchases and expenditures, and the handling of employee relations functions. Participates in equipment selection, and makes purchasing decisions within assigned limits.

 

Qualification Guide

Knowledge of large-scale printing and copying management, including methods, procedures, equipment capabilities and uses. Ability to develop and implement fiscal and operating procedures, and management information systems. Ability to coordinate the various operating phases of a large printing, copying and mailing function. Ability to train and supervise the work of technical specialists and skilled craft workers.

Graduation from a college or university with major coursework in a field related to the position’s duties, and related work experience at a supervisory level; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
