Distinguishing Features of the Work

Performs a variety of tasks to prepare photographic film for use in producing photolithographic printing plates.

May report to a Lithographic Supervisor or other printing shop technician or manager.

Places developed film on an illuminated cable to prepare a film flat or layout for use in producing a photolithographic printing plate. Cuts, trims and fits film as required by job specifications. May also perform paste-up tasks.

Strips or masks film, including use of screens to produce multi-color work or other effects. Touches up film to conceal pinholes or other imperfections, using an artist’s brush and opaque. Assembles flat according to required dimensions, utilizing measuring instruments such as triangles, straight edges and dividers.

May assist in operating a process camera and in developing film. May assist in plate making or perform other related print shop duties.

 

Qualification Guide

Knowledge of photo finishing and retouching. Skill in the preparation of photographic film layouts for producing photolithographic printing plates. Ability to perform related printing shop tasks.

Graduation from high school, including or supplemented by courses related to the position’s duties, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
