Distinguishing Features of the Work

Operates small offset presses under 23" and/or letterpress equipment to produce printed materials having routine technical requirements.

Typically reports to a higher level operator, foreman or similar supervisor.

Operates small presses utilizing plastic or metal plates, or limited handset type to produce printed materials that typically require only single color black work. Determines job requirements from verbal or written directions. Prepares press by preparing ink and water, making feeding and pressure adjustments, and affixing plates or other type base.

Runs jobs, monitoring press operation. Performs job-related binding/finishing tasks, and routine equipment maintenance. Under the close supervision of a more experienced operator, may participate or assist in the operation of larger equipment or more technically demanding work.

 

Qualification Guide

Knowledge of basic offset and/or letterpress printing equipment. Skill in equipment operation. Ability to perform manual labor involving high volume repetitive tasks. Ability to perform related binding/finishing work.

Completion of elementary school or trade school with coursework related to printing operations; or a combination of training and experience indicating possession of the preceding knowledge, skill and abilities.
