PHOTOGRAMMETRIST SENIOR 54244

8/1/88 C

CLASS CONCEPT/FUNCTION

This is the second class in the Photogrammetrist Series. Positions in this class perform the full range of stereo-plotting from a three-dimensional photographic model including digitizing features, plotting contours, and providing ground profiles and cross sections. This class is distinguished from the Photogrammetrist class by its responsibility for performing a wider range of photogrammetry tasks. The class is distinguished from the Photogrammetrist Specialist class by the latter’s greater involvement in the Analytical Aerial Triangulation process.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE WORK

Complexity of Work: Performs work of moderate difficulty. Compiles digital planimetric, topographic, hydrographic, and cadastral maps and location surveys for use in either printed form or in Computer Assisted Design and Drafting (CADD) Systems. Performs initial orientation of stereomodel, removing parallax; and performs absolute orientation using a software program which levels and scales the model. Selects locations for control and pass points, annotates photography with these point locations; and operates pugging device to mark the photograph. Operates stereoplotters and appropriate software to digitize planimetric and topographic features, plot contours, and generate ground profiles and cross sections. Creates files for control, storage, and set-up calibrations of digitized map data. Merges data from several files and/or stereoplotters. Prepares mylar and/or paper plots from digitized data for utility designation, field annotation, contractor usage, and property information. Trains and provides technical advice and guidance to lower-level photogrammetrists. On a less frequent basis, may perform the process of Analytical Aerial Triangulation.

Supervision Given: Supervision is typically not a factor; however, positions in this class provide training, advice, and guidance to Photogrammetrisrs and Photogrammetrist Assistants.

Supervision Received: Receives directions from a Photogrammetrist Supervisor.

Scope: Positions in this class operate stereoscopic-plotting instruments to perform the full range of plotting activities. Work affects highway engineering projects requiring aerial survey data.

Impact of Actions: Actions impact the technical accuracy and timeliness of highway engineering projects. Errors can result in inaccurate maps and location surveys, and can be costly in terms of time, money, and resources.

Personal Contacts: Positions have infrequent contacts with design engineers about projects; with agency information systems staff; and with equipment vendors to exchange information on software use, problems, and methods of operation.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Knowledge: Working knowledge of photogrammetric practices and principles as related to planimetric, topographic, hydrographic and cadastral maps; of the technical application of drafting methods and procedures including applicable mathematical calculations and theories; of CADD practices and principles; and of survey requirements related to highway design plans. Some knowledge of basic engineering practices and principles; and of basic Analytical Aerial Triangulation principles and practices.

Skills: Considerable skill in the operation of optical train stereoscopic plotting instruments.

Abilities: Demonstrated ability to use depth perception; to interpret photographic images and patterns; and to transfer this information into digital format for topographic planimetric, cadastral, and hydrographic mapping; and to train others in general photogrammetry processes.

QUALIFICATIONS GUIDE*

Licenses or Certification: None.

Education or Training: Graduation from high school or equivalent with additional course work in mathematics, drafting, surveying, computer technology, or a related field.

Level and Type of Experience: Progressively responsible experience in the operation of stereoscopic plotting instruments.

An equivalent combination of training and experience indicating possession of the preceding knowledge and abilities may substitute for this education and experience.

CLASS HISTORY

This class was revised in July 1988 as a result of the Classification Review/Specification Update Program. This class replaces the Photogrammetrist C class.
