PHOTOGRAMMETRIST 54243
8/1/88 C
CLASS CONCEPT/FUNCTION
This is first class in the Photogrammetrist Series. Positions in this class operate stereoscopic-plotting instruments and concentrate on digitizing features in the preparation of planimetric maps. The class is distinguished from the Photogrammetrist Assistant by its increased independence of action in the preparation of planimetric maps. The class is distinguished from the Photogrammetrist Senior class by its responsibility for focusing on planimetric mapping as opposed to the full range of plotting using digitizing features, plotting contours, and providing ground profiles and cross sections.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE WORK
Complexity of Work: Performs work of routine difficulty. The duties involve the orientation and operation of stereoscopic plotting instruments in which an accurate three-dimensional model of the ground is viewed. Positions in this class focus on two-dimensional planimetric features. Performs relative and absolute orientation of the stereomodel using optical train stereoplotter, Intermap Workstations, and stereo digitizing software; determines if control points meet the project requirements. Interprets planimetric features, such as roadways, buildings, utilities, etc., and some topographic features from aerial photographs, stores data in digital format; edits digital data files; and plots digital data in survey roll or plan sheet format. Under closer supervision and in a training capacity, plots contours and provides ground profiles and cross sections. Assists in training Photogrammetrist Assistants.
Supervision Given: Supervision is typically not a factor; however, positions may assist in the training of Photogrammetrist Assistants.
Supervision Received: Receives general supervision from a Photogrammetrist Supervisor. May receive advice, guidance, and training from higher level photogrammetrists.
Scope: Positions in this class focus on digitizing features and preparing planimetric maps with stereoscopic plotting instruments. Work affects portions of projects requiring aerial survey data. Little impact beyond the immediate work unit since the work is reviewed and combined with other data prior to use.
Impact of Actions: Actions impact the accuracy of planimetric maps. Negative consequences are somewhat limited since work is reviewed and major errors are not likely to go undetected.
Personal Contacts: Contacts are infrequent and limited to the work unit.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge: Some knowledge of the technical application and theories of CADD and photogrammetric practices and principles; of survey requirements related to highway design plans; and of the technical application of drafting methods and procedures including applicable mathematical calculations and theories.
Skills: Working skill in the operation of optical train stereoscopic plotting instruments.
Abilities: Demonstrated ability to use depth perception; to interpret photographic images and patterns; and to transfer this information into digital format for planimetric maps.
QUALIFICATIONS GUIDE*
Licenses or Certification: None.
Education or Training: Graduation from high school or equivalent with additional course work in mathematics, drafting, surveying, computer technology, or other related field.
Level and Type of Experience: Experience in the operation of stereoscopic plotting instruments.
An equivalent combination of training and experience indicating possession of the preceding knowledge and abilities may substitute for this education and experience.
CLASS HISTORY
This class was revised in July 1988 as a result of the Classification Review/Specification Update Program. This class replaces the Photogrammetrist B class.
