ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN VII 54027

07/01/95 C

CLASS CONCEPT/FUNCTION

This is the seventh and final level in the Engineering Technician series. Positions in this class provide advanced technical engineering and coordinating work in one of several areas including bridge maintenance, construction, rehabilitation, and repair; field research and testing including collection, analysis and study of a variety of transportation data; and review of plans, permits and contracts developed by the agency for construction and maintenance projects.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE WORK

Complexity of the Work: This level is distinguished from the Engineering Technician VI by its administrative and technical duties within an assigned area requiring the application of advanced technical engineering principles. Examples of such areas include bridge maintenance, construction, rehabilitation and repair, field research and testing and construction contracts and permits. This class is distinguished from the Transportation Engineer class by its application of practical technical experience in programs or projects rather than the application of scholastic theory and practical engineering experience to engineering projects.

TRANSPORTATION TECHNICAL SUPPORT COORDINATOR:

- plans and executes a sequence of operations district-wide, in bridge rehabilitation, construction, maintenance, and repair;

- prepares cost estimates and materials lists used in budget preparation and monitoring of related expenditures;

- makes recommendations for work plans to incorporate staffing and equipment needs in a technical related research project or program;

- develops and reviews written reports of analyses to include formal presentations of findings.

Supervision Given: Supervises Transportation Maintenance Superintendents, Transportation Maintenance Supervisors, or multiple staffs who supervise and conduct transportation data collection and analysis.

Supervision Received: Non-supervisory positions provide technical expertise and guidance in a specific functional area.
