Distinguishing Features of the Work

Performs a variety of technical functions involved in the compounding, preparing and dispensing of medications and other pharmaceuticals.

Duties may also include ordering, stocking and delivering medications and pharmaceutical supplies; packaging or repackaging medications for use in unit dose systems; controlling distribution of controlled drugs; keeping accurate records and maintaining equipment; and assisting in out-patient pharmacy dispensing areas. May perform duties on a shift basis.

Is directly supervised by a Pharmacist or Pharmacy Assistant B.

 

Qualification Guide

General knowledge of the names and classifications of drugs according to use, effect and dosage. Exceptional skill and accuracy in the preparation of drugs and maintenance of related records. Dependability and resourcefulness.

Graduation from high school with experience related to the duties of the position, or college training with courses in chemistry or general science is preferred.
