Distinguishing Features of the Work

Supervises a group of Child Care Technicians in planning and implementing therapeutic, social, and recreational activities for children’s programs.

Supervision is received from a registered nurse.

Is responsible for planning and implementing recreational, social and therapeutic activities for children in accordance with prescribed treatment plans. Utilizes group management principles and nursing care directives to create proper therapeutic environment. Observes effects of medication, and reports behavioral reactions to clinical staff. Initiates assessment of physical problems by taking vital signs if indicated.

Assumes responsibility for supervision of off-grounds activities. Attends team meetings to develop treatment plans. Provides on the job training to new technicians.

 

Qualification Guide

Knowledge of child care practices. Knowledge of basic characteristics of emotionally disturbed children. Ability to plan and implement recreational, social and therapeutic activities. Ability to express visual observations orally and in writing. Ability to supervise the work of others.

Graduation from high school, and completion of an approved training program for Child Care Technicians. Experience related to the duties of the position. Training and experience indicating possession of the preceding knowledge and abilities, and completion of an approved training course, may substitute for high school graduation.
