Distinguishing Features of the Work

Performs a variety of routine functions related to the maintenance and setting up of respiratory therapy equipment.

Positions in this class have primary responsibility for performing manual assignments not requiring the knowledge and sill of technicians and therapists. Duties performed at this level range from cleaning and sterilizing used equipment and assembling it for use on future patients to taking incoming equipment calls, delivering and installing equipment at the patient location and monitoring levels of liquid oxygen and nitrous oxide. Supervision is received from a Respiratory Therapy Technician Supervisor or Therapist.

Examples of duties characteristic of positions in this class:

  1. Cleans and sterilizes all equipment used in routine therapy and packages it to prevent contamination.
  2. Answers incoming calls for equipment, records the request and prepares and delivers equipment to patient areas.
  3. Changes equipment in use daily, installing equipment that has been sterilized and returning contaminated equipment.
  4. Maintains the liquid oxygen and nitrous oxide levels daily, records levels, replaces oxygen and changes nitrous oxide cylinders with low.
  5. Maintains adequate staff inventories of department supplies.
  6. Performs other related assignments as requested by Respiratory Therapy Technicians or Therapists.

Qualification Standards

Completion of high school or high school equivalency examination.

Ability to interpret and follow oral and written instructions in exact detail.
