CLASS CONCEPT/FUNCTION

This is the second class in the Laboratory Technician series. Positions in this class are responsible for performing basic technical work in support of the operations of a teaching, research, clinical, service or regulatory laboratory. Positions follow specific instructions in performing a limited variety of standard procedures under the immediate supervision of higher level laboratory personnel. This class is distinguished from the Laboratory Aide class by its responsibility for performing more technical duties under less rigid guidelines. This class is distinguished from the Laboratory Technician Senior class by the latter's responsibility for a wider range of standard procedures, some of which involve a higher degree of complexity.

Supervision Given: Supervision is typically not a factor; however, positions may provide guidance to lower level laboratory personnel.

Supervision Received: Positions work under the immediate supervision of higher level laboratory personnel.
