Distinguishing Features of the Work

Supervises, conducts, and interprets speech and 1angtrage examinations, and performs other related clinical duties. Sets priorities of service, interprets rules, regulations, and is accountable for standards of professional care.

Is responsible for the supervision, administration, and use of special non-medical examinations of the receptive and expressive functioning of the various central and peripheral speech and language systems. Additional responsibilities include selecting and recommending use of prosthetic devices to help alleviate or restore various expressive functions of the verbal communication system; preparing reports on patients; operating speech and language instrumentation; recommending and/or conducting rehabilitative procedures for persons exhibiting various communicative disorders; training and/or directing students in speech pathology. Supervises assistants and aides. Visits other agencies to demonstrate speech pathology techniques, and to lecture, teach, conduct, research, and orient other professionals in the various aspects of the profession of speecl1 pathology. Duties are performed with considerable independence. General supervision is received from a higher level pr of professional or Administrator.

 

Qualification Guide

Current Virginia 1icense to practice Speech Pathology from the Virginia Board of Examiners for Audiology and Speech Pathology. Prior experience in the duties and responsibilities of the class. Ability to direct the work of others.
