Distinguishing Features of the Work

Conducts and interprets audiological vestibular examinations and performs related clinical, teaching, and research duties.

Operates all types of special audiological instrumentation such as evoked potential instrumentation electronystagmographs, and other instrumentation used to measure the function of the auditory and vestibular system. Additional responsibilities include recommending and/or conducting no-medical evaluative procedures of the central and peripheral auditory system; preparing results of examinations and referring patients to other appropriate professionals when necessary; selecting, fitting, and recommending the use of amplification, specific hearing aids and tinnitus instruments for specific individuals and providing orientation in the use of hearing aids; evaluating and counseling on psych-social factors affecting aural rehabilitation; making visits to other agencies to perform audiological tests and demonstrate audiological techniques; conducting, researching, and participating in communicative disorders programs. May supervise assistants and aides. Duties are performed with considerable independence. General supervision, priority of service and other direction may be received from a higher level Audiologist or other Administrator.

 

Qualification Guide

Current Virginia license to practice Audiology from the Virginia Board of Examiners for Audiology and Speech Pathology.
