Distinguishing Features of the Work

Develops, demonstrates and explains specialized crafts and items at a state historic site or museum.

Work is performed under the administrative direction of an Information Technician or other supervisor.

Based on historical knowledge and technical skills, develops interpretive demonstrations of the fabrication and use of 17th Century armor and weaponry such as helmets, breastplates, gorgets, swords, halberds, pikes, crossbows and cannons. Repairs items by producing authentic replacement parts and connecting hardware, or by utilizing skills in leather tooling and armor assembly and molding. Cares for other display items such as hand weapons and ammunition.

Assists in developing new programs on 17th Century military subjects. Provides information to Historic Site Interpreters to be used in explanations to visitor

 

Qualification Guide

Knowledge of 17th Century military subjects including dress, weapons and ceremonies. Skill in fabricating, repairing and maintaining armor and weapons of the period. Ability to give interpretive demonstrations to visitors. Ability to develop new demonstrations in subject area speciality.

Graduation from high school and apprenticeship training related to the position's duties; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
