Distinguishing Features of the Work

 

Provides travel information and services to patrons in the Tourism Division's Richmond sales office.

Duties are performed under the direction of the office manager (Information Technician).

Provides brochures and advice on scenic and recreational attractions, events, resorts and accommodations to individuals, 7 groups, and travel trade professionals in response to inquiries by phone, mail, or in person. Assembles appropriate publications and mails to inquirers. Assists travel trade professionals with group and package tour arrangements. Assists in making hotel/motel and resort reservations.

Assists office manager in updating office materials, and in maintaining files and records. Types mailing labels. Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned, and assumes responsibility for office in manager's absence.

 

Qualification Guide

Knowledge of travel counseling and tour arranging. Ability to acquire detailed knowledge of state tourist attractions. Ability to respond to patron inquiries with appropriate information and travel directions. Ability to work with travel trade professionals. Ability to type and maintain files and records.

Graduation from high school, with experience related to the duties of position--preferably in travel counseling; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
