Distinguishing Features of the Work

Services, repairs maintains, installs and operates a variety of television equipment and related electronic components in closed circuit educational television systems.

Responsibility is assigned for inspecting, repairing, and maintaining broadcast quality closed circuit television equipment including cameras, studio controls, monitors, video tape recorders, and transmitting equipment. Assignments generally involve Responsibility regular equipment inspections and performance tests, performing preventive maintenance and troubleshooting equipment malfunctions. Equipment problems are diagnosed and repairs made. Repair shops may be maintained and stocked with a variety of testing apparatus, maintenance tools and inventories of replacement parts. Maintenance and repair work is accomplished with minimum supervision. Installation work is normally carried out in accordance with specific guidelines of superiors. Duties may also include operating and tuning television studio equipment during production and closed circuit transmission.

Examples of duties characteristic of positions in this class:

1. Inspects and tests broadcast television equipment, such as cameras, video tape recorders, monitors, and studio control consoles; performs preventive maintenance and makes repairs on a systematic basis.

2. Troubleshoots and diagnoses equipment malfunctions; makes appropriate repairs ant replaces defective components in returning equipment to normal operating condition. Such work is done with minimum supervision; however, repairs requiring extensive expenditures in labor and parts are generally cleared with superiors prior to being undertaken.

3. Compiles and maintains inventory and maintenance records on all major pieces of closed circuit television equipment in the system.

4. Maintains a repair shop with test equipment, maintenance manuals and an inventory of replacement parts.

5. Operates and tunes television equipment during" production and closet circuit transmission to maintain maximum quality of Performance.

 

Qualification Standards

Completion of a standard high school course and three years of experience in work involving maintenance, installation, end repair of television production, recording and transmitting equipment. Specialized technical training and education related to the work may be substituted for the required experience and school education on an equivalent time basis.

Knowledge of the installation, repair, maintenance and operation of audio and video equipment used in closed circuit television; skill in the use of electronic test measurement equipment; ability to analyze and interpret schematic diagrams, electronic specifications and equipment manuals.
