Distinguishing Features of the Work

Assists in the operation of a day care facility serving agency employees' children aged two to six.

Reports to a Dependent Day Care Supervisor and/or the faculty center director.

Assists supervisor with daily activities including preparation of teaching materials, presenting of lessons, monitoring of play, and assisting with field trips or other special programs. May handle some groups independently. Assumes some responsibility for observing and recording behavior, testing, and record keeping. Other duties include assisting with meals and snacks and caring for injured or sick children.

Attends classes, workshops, and seminars, and weekly director's conferences. Attends parents meetings, as appropriate.

 

Qualification Guide

Knowledge of the principles and practices of early childhood education, and of the typical stages of child growth and development. Ability to assist in the teaching, recreation, and personal care activities of young children.

Graduation from high school. Additional courses in early childhood education or development preferred. Experience related to the duties of the position desirable. A combination of training and experience indicating possession of the preceding knowledge and abilities may substitute for high school graduation.
