CLASS CONCEPT/FUNCTION

This is the first class in the Audiovisual series. Positions in the class provide a variety of services related to audio visual equipment and facilities in support of an educational, public relations, library, telecommunications or related function. Duties include, equipment acquisition, distribution and maintenance; design and production of audiovisual and computer graphics; and the provision of technical assistance to users. This class is distinguished from the Audiovisual Supervisor by the latter's responsibility to supervise an audiovisual program and its associated support staff.

 

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE WORK

Complexity of Work: Performs work of moderate difficulty in providing a full range of audiovisual services to faculty or other users by assessing needs for audiovisual equipment; scheduling use of and setting up equipment and facilities; operating equipment; and instructing faculty and other staff in equipment use, issuing equipment and controlling inventories. Positions in this class may also instruct workshops in audiovisual capabilities; design and produce audiovisual and computer graphics and programs; operate closed circuit audiovisual networks; prepare budget estimates and equipment orders; and maintain utilization records.

Supervision Given: Supervision is typically not a factor; however, positions may direct student or ether assistants engaged in equipment issuance, control and maintenance activities.

Supervision Received: General supervision is received from an Audiovisual Supervisor, Learning Resources Director, college/institution department head, Librarian Director, faculty administrator, manager and/or training director or other agency administrator.

Scope: Work has moderate affect on the ability of the facility to provide specialized audiovisual computer graphics, public relations or educational services programs in support of overall agency goals and objectives.

Impact of Actions: Determinations and actions affect the availability, quality and cost of audiovisual equipment, compute' graphics, instructional programs media materials and operations. Proper maintenance programs will extend the life of equipment and media

materials. Correct inventory and utilization monitoring will promote maximum use and minimize abuse and pilferage.

Personal Contacts: Frequent internal contacts occur with audiovisual users to exchange information on requirements, equipment usage, and to

advise -on technical contacts encountered in audiovisual production.

Occasional external contacts with equipment and service vendors transpire to secure audiovisual equipment specifications, cost estimates, and repairs.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Knowledge: Working knowledge of audiovisual equipment and production techniques; of the principles and applications of audiovisual instructional methods; and of computer graphics equipment and software. Some knowledge of state procurement processes.

Skills: Working skills in operating audiovisual and peripheral equipment.

Abilities: Demonstrated ability to instruct others in equipment operation and maintenance; to plan and assign tasks to assistants; to work well with administrators, faculty and students; and to maintain accurate records of equipment inventories and maintenance.

 

QUALIFICATIONS GUIDE*

Licenses or Certification: None.

Education or Training: College or technical course work in educational technology, media production, communications, or a related field including courses in instructional technology.

Level and Type of Experience: Experience in audiovisual media production, equipment operation and maintenance, or in audiovisual support services, or related fields that includes the design and development of multi-media instructional and production functions and media center operations.

An equivalent combination of training and experience indicating possession of the preceding know ledges, skills and abilities may substitute for this education and experience.
