Distinguishing Features of the Work

Performs specialized historical research which results in the publication of manuscripts for a national audience.

May supervise subordinate researchers by making specific research assignments and reviewing completed research for accuracy.

Supervision is provided by an Historian D who assigns major projects and establishes general editorial policies and procedural guidelines for published manuscripts.

Generally, manuscripts serve as reference documents for use by other historians and researchers. The historical research is project oriented involving numerous topics, events, historical incidences, and persons, requiring the development of methodology, identifying and verifying resources, deciding subject matter to be included or excluded from manuscripts, and determining editorial style of the published manuscripts.

 

Qualification Guide

Knowledge of historical research methodologies and resources. Knowledge of manuscript publication procedures. Skill in performance of historical research. Skill in editorial and manuscript publication. Ability to supervise and direct research staff.

Graduation from college preferably with a degree in history. Demonstrated experience in historical research. Training and experience indicating possession of the preceding KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS and ability may substitute for the degree requirement.
