Distinguishing Features of the Work

Performs a variety of administrative and technical duties in the management of a small agency or branch library, or performs technical duties in a subdivision of a large multiunit library.

May supervise paraprofessional and other support staff. Reports to an agency administrator, or a higher level library professional.

Agency management duties typically include supervising or performing tasks associated with acquisitions; cataloging; bibliography, reference, and other user services; circulation, collection maintenance; and personnel selection, training, and supervision.

Technical duties in a large library subdivision may be performed in cataloging, reference services, circulation, special collection maintenance (pictures, audio-visuals, music), or in assigned administrative tasks that require technical training.

 

Qualification Guide

Knowledge of standard library principles, organization and procedures. Ability to organize services and to perform technical tasks. Ability to assist users. Ability to train and supervise support personnel. Physical ability to handle books.

Possession of a librarian’s license issued by the State Board for the Certification of Librarians.
