Distinguishing Features of the Work

Performs a variety of library administrative and technical support services.

May supervise clerical or student assistants.

Work is usually performed under the direction or supervision of a professional librarian or archivist.

Duties of individual positions may involve a combination of administrative, technical and public service functions such as: ordering, receiving and verifying library materials; verifying exchange rates and monitoring vendor performance; cataloging materials in all forms using available copy; processing inter-library loan requests; maintaining stacks and supervising student shelvers; inventorying, arranging and/or microfilming records; managing a resource collection or library sub-unit of limited complexity; giving directions and information to library users; performing bibliographic searches; supervising circulation and audio-visual services; performing miscellaneous duties for the library director or administrators.

 

Qualification Guide

Knowledge of library cataloging, filing, and reference systems. Knowledge of a foreign language may be required in some positions. Ability to assist library users, faculty, and administrators. Ability to supervise clerical and student assistants.

Graduation from college or a combination of education and experience indicating possession of the preceding knowledge and abilities.
