EXTENSION CENTER ASSISTANT B 31112

Effective Date: 9/1/54 EEO Code: B

Distinguishing Features of the Work

Plans, organizes, administers, and promotes a program of adult educational courses in a restricted geographical area of the State.

Duties involve the planning and organization of a comprehensive but limited program of adult educational courses, with responsibility for determination of the academic interests and needs of the locality. Responsibility is attached for maintaining close contact with local school officials, civic and professional organizations, and local industry to promote the use of the extension center and to determine the need for changes in the curriculum. In addition, the incumbent is responsible for recommending qualified instructors, obtaining classroom facilities, procuring texts, maintaining relevant records, and publicizing the program. Since the operation is carried on in a limited geographical area (usually restricted to a city and the immediately surrounding territory) the scope of the program is considerably smaller and 1ess difficult than that administered by an Extension Center Director. Even though the duties and responsibilities involved in the administration of the program are similar to those of the higher level, the difficulty and inconvenience of travel are almost nonexistent; the number of personal contacts necessary for the promotion and coordination of the program are less; the problems of securing instructors and physical facilities are not as severe; the diversification of courses are not as great; the "paper-work" administration is not as heavy.

Work is performed under the supervision of the Extension Teaching Director while latitude is allowed for independent action subject to review.
