Distinguishing Features of the Work

Coordinates the development and implementation of major research, planning, and evaluation projects required to manage the Virginia Community College System (VCCS). Coordinates the implementation of policy-related procedures for the development and analytical use of VCCS-college management information resources.

General direction is provided by the community colleges Director of Planning and Evaluation.

Conceptualizes and designs methods for special studies relating to program planning, management, and evaluation. Provides research and systems analyst support for such work as managing and interpreting data for System college administration; designing, utilizing, and modifying data systems; identifying and analyzing resources, trends, and higher education issues; monitoring the integration of VCCS data systems; maintaining and updating the VCCS master plan and reviewing/integrating college plans; analyzing and making recommendations to the State Board for Community Colleges concerning the formulation of system-wide policy. The work also includes projecting community college enrollments, and the preparation of State and Federal reports.

Serves as a resource to principal agency administrators for special projects. Coordinates joint committee and task force activities between the System offices, external agencies, secondary schools, and two-year and four year college administrators.

 

Qualification Guide

Knowledge of higher education management concepts, methodologies, and planning strategies. Knowledge of research, planning and evaluation methods. Knowledge of data systems applications in institutional research and planning. Ability to present written or oral reports. Ability to organize and manage concurrent projects.

Graduation from a college or university with major studies in education, social sciences, statistics or a related curriculum. An advanced degree is desirable. Experience in higher education institutional research, evaluation and planning. A combination of training and experience indicating possession of the preceding knowledge and abilities may also be qualifying.
