Distinguishing Features of the Work

Provides management planning, coordination, and evaluation of a particular program or service, or group of programs or services in the state primary secondary education system.

Provides direct supervision to a staff of Education Curriculum Specialists. Receives direction from an Education Program Director.

Develops and manages an annual plan and budget for the program(s) or service(s). Reviews and approves local school division plan(s) implementation, and assists in the establishment and training of local planning committees. Develops procedures for the solicitation of special project proposals, and teacher training activities. Provides leadership and consultant services to local education divisions.

Coordinates reporting on the standards of learning program. Evaluates basic learning skills against quality standards. Reports on progress made in basic skill achievements.

Duties are performed in cooperation with local education agencies; school division superintendents, instruction directors, and personnel supervisors; legislators; and the State Board of Education.

Qualification Guide

Knowledge of the curriculum, policies and practices pertaining to the program or service to which assigned. Ability to assess needs, develop programs or services, and provide technical assistance and leadership. Ability to hold conferences and workshops. Ability to supervise the work of others.

Graduation from a college or university preferably with a Master's degree in a field related to the position's duties, and related teaching or supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

 

 

COMMUNITY COLLEGE EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS COORDINATOR 31054

Distinguishing Features of the Work

Develops and coordinates the implementation and operation of all community colleges instructional and student services programs and policies. Provides staff assistance to the Assistant Vice Chancellor of this class. Instructional Programs and Student Services.

General direction is received from the Assistant Vice Chancellor of Instructional Programs and Student Services. Supervision of the work of others is not usually required of Positions in this class

Develops proposals for new or modified policies for instructional programs and student services. Interprets and clarifies policies and procedures to colleges as well as federal and state agencies.

Develops and maintains a program evaluation system for recommendations regarding modification, continuance, or discontinuance of college instructional programs. Reviews and recommends action on college program proposals, curricular plans, and course requests. Oversees the maintenance of an inventory of programs and courses offered at each college. Coordinates the development, maintenance, and revision of publications and procedures related to academic and student services programs. Assists colleges in qualifying for Southern Association of Colleges and Schools accreditation. Coordinates and conducts seminars, workshops, and meetings on a local, regional, and statewide basis.

Assists colleges in the preparation of academic program and student service proposals. Coordinates curriculum and program design and redesign. Identifies sources of professional information relative to curricular program planning and placement. Assists colleges in the identification of funding sources for program and project activities. Identifies staff development needs and initiates responsive activities.

 

Qualification Guide

Knowledge of curriculum development, academic program administration and student services programs. Knowledge of the organization, mission and accreditation requirements of the Virginia Community College System or of related higher education institutions. Ability to communicate orally and in writing. Ability to deal effectively with academicians and administrators. Ability to work independently.

Graduation from a college or university with major course work in curriculum development, instruction, student personnel services or a related field, and related occupational experience. An advanced degree is preferred. A combination of training and experience indicating possession of the preceding knowledge and abilities may also be qualifying.
