CLASS CONCEPT/FUNCTION

This is the first level in the Education Leadership Series. Positions in this series provide a combination of educational based research and analysis to support the activities, programs, and projects in support of higher level series of positions.

 

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE WORK

Complexity of Work: Performs tasks of routine complexity applying educational practices and technical expertise in an assigned educational field or fields. Conducts educational studies concerned with: providing technical assistance to teachers, students, and selected local school divisions. Applies educational expertise to a broad range of project assignments concerned with the gathering and analysis of teacher and student data, school division efficiency, productivity, work measurement, staffing, cost analysis, organizational studies, resource usage and equipment utilization. Assignments support the work of the higher level classes.

Supervision Given: Supervision typically is not a factor.

Supervision Received: Direction is received from an Education Division Chief, Education Lead Specialist or Education Principal Specialist. Supports the work projects and provides technical support to higher education series classes.

Scope: Project assignments are more narrow in scope than those of other classes in the series and are primarily concerned with performing the routine work in support of higher level class projects or activities.

Impact of Actions: Decisions made by this class for assigned

projects impact individual school divisions or school programs and policies.

Personal Contacts: Occasional internal and external contacts are made with teachers, administrators or local school superintendents to obtain or provide information as directed by a higher level class of position in support of a program or technical assistance.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Knowledge: Working knowledge of the designated education field or fields. Some knowledge of local school divisions, state and local government policies and procedures and state agency functions; of instructional practices, service delivery models, research methods, project management and information systems.

Skills: Basic facility with keyboarding.

Abilities: Demonstrated ability to define problems and apply problem solving techniques to complex educational issues; to research and analyze data and formulate conclusions and recommendations for projects and technical assistance purposes; to communicate effectively; to effectively present complex information to both technical and lay audiences in writing and in formal and informal presentations; manage multiple assignments within critical deadlines.

 

QUALIFICATIONS GUIDE *

Licenses or Certifications: None.

Education or Training: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree in the designated field.

Level and Type of Experience: Some experience in the assigned education field in a local school division or equivalent is required.

An equivalent combination of training and experience indicating

possession of the preceding knowledge, skills and abilities may substitute for this education and experience.

 

CLASS HISTORY

This class was established as a result of a reorganization of the Department of Education in 1990. This represents an update of this class.
