Distinguishing Features of the Work

Provides professional direction and/or assistance to an individual program or service component in the state primary/secondary education system.

May supervise the work of assistant supervisors. Typically reports to an Education Program Associate Director.

Participates in curriculum planning, new course development. selection of materials, and evaluation of instructional activities. Interprets policies of the State Board of Education and local school- boards. Assists local school divisions in achieving objectives outlined in the standards of learning and quality.

Participates in local in service meetings and curriculum workshops, and assists in planning annual statewide conferences. Serves as a member of various committees, and conveys results of committee meetings to appropriate personnel. Conducts and reports on surveys; assists in special projects, conferences and programs; and serves as liaison to advisory committees.

Duties are performed in cooperation with local school divisions and boards, citizenry, and other agencies.

 

Qualification Guide

Knowledge of the technical aspects of the program or service component to which assigned. Knowledge of curriculum and program design and evaluation. Ability to interpret policies. Ability to train and provide direction to local staff, and to work effectively with individuals and groups.

Graduation from a college or university preferably with a Master's degree in a field related to the position's duties, and teaching or educational supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Eligibility for, or possession of a valid teaching certificate is preferred.
