Distinguishing Features of the Work

Inspects establishments where drugs and pharmaceuticals are manufactured or sold for compliance with state laws and regulations. Investigates complaints or alleged law violations.

Supervises undercover shoppers investigating pharmacies, pharmacists, or other practitioners. Reports to a Health Regulatory Boards Compliance Manager.

The duties include visiting pharmacies; drug wholesale and manufacturing establishments in an assigned geographic area to explain provisions of the law, rules and regulations, and to verify operating procedures. Samples of drugs are purchased for laboratory chemical analysis to verify content and accuracy of measurement. Investigates reported law violations or complaints. Gathers evidence, makes reports, and gives court testimony. Cooperates with officials of the Federal Food and Drug, and Drug Enforcement Administrations, and with officials of the State Bureau of Nursing and Medical Care facilities. May conduct examinations for the Board of Pharmacy for licensure to practice. Assigned geographic area may vary subject to workload and undercover operational needs.

 

Qualification Guide

Knowledge of the principles and practices of pharmacy. Ability to interpret and explain complex rules and regulations. Ability to conduct investigations, and to organize and present information in a clear concise manner.

Graduation from an approved school of pharmacy.
