Distinguishing Features of the Work

Manages an aspect of the agency investment function.

 

The duties may be performed in stock, bond, or short- or long-term portfolio management. Tasks may include developing and recommending short- and long-term investment policies and goals; developing, recommending and implementing current investment strategies and changes in guidelines; analyzing major national and international financial markets, monitoring stock, bond and money market conditions; supervising computerized investment management accounting systems; monitoring the performance of outside investment managers or consultants; and supervising the work of lower level investment professionals or technicians.

Reports to a higher level investment professional or agency administrator.

 

Qualification Guide

Knowledge of national and international money markets and systems. Knowledge of securities analysis and/or trading. Knowledge of computerized investment analysis, accounting and performance monitoring. Skill in dealing with investment professionals. Ability to make critical judgments under time constraints.

Graduation from a college or university with emphasis in a related field of study. Attainment of MBA or CFA may be desirable in some instances. In-depth experience in securities trading may be qualifying in some instances.
