Distinguishing Features of the Work

Provides administrative and technical assistance, performs systems audits, and assists in developing policy for handling criminal history record information for the Criminal Justice Services Commission.

The duties include monitoring compliance with security and privacy regulations, coordinating training programs, and assisting in the development of rules for handling criminal history record information. Responsibility is involved for assisting in the development of system standards, organizing training programs and providing assistance to State and local agencies. Supervision is received from the Criminal Justice Information System Supervisor.

Examples of duties characteristic of positions in this class:

  1. Conducts administrative and technical monitoring, auditing and implementation of the privacy and security regulations and programs on a statewide basis.
  2. Coordinates, develops and provides training programs and technical assistance to personnel of state and local agencies.
  3. Assists in drafting and developing of rules, policies, guidelines for the collection, storage, privacy, confidentiality and dissemination of criminal history record information.
  4. Assists in the development of system standards, goals, objectives, priorities, plans, and training for a comprehensive statewide criminal justice information system.
  5. Provides technical assistance to state and local agencies in the development of standard record keeping practices.
  6. Monitors and audits state and local agencies for compliance with privacy and security regulations.
  7. Provides staff support and perform duties as required or assigned.

Qualification Standards

Graduation from an accredited college or university with major studies in criminal justice, public administration, business, computer science, personnel or related field and three years in planning development or administrative duties associated with criminal justice. One year of experience must have been with criminal justice information systems or other automated record systems. Related graduate experience may be substituted for the non-specialized experience on an equivalent time basis.

Thorough knowledge of computer systems /software is required; ability to develop information systems, ability to coordinate system requirements and develop training programs.
