Distinguishing Features of the Work

 

This class is responsible for managing a unit that provides a wide range of highly complex professional or analytical services to State Government.

 

An employee in this class is distinguished from the class of Manager C by the responsib11ity attached for accountab11ity/consequence of error; managing multiple complex programs which directly impact on State Government services; managing a diverse and multi-disciplined professional and analytical staff; and conferring with Statewide, federal, and local level offic1als in making policy and action decisions which have Statewide implications and consequences.

 

Additional responsibilities include directing and coordinating program activities of the unit; developing and administering budget allocations for the unit; develop1ng and establishing performance standards and objectives for the un1t; scheduling and assigning projects and activities to appropriate personnel; evaluating the quality of work produced by the unit; interview1ng and selecting employees; evaluat1ng employee performance and recommending promotions, demotions, or transfers, initiating disciplinary action when necessary; evaluating and assessing training needs of the employees; and providing counseling and guidance to employees as needed. This class reports to the Division Director and rece1ves minimum supervision.

 

 

Minimum Qual1fication Standards

 

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree in business or public administration, or other related fields; and extensive exper1ence in governmental operations, planning or budgeting functions, including at least four years of managerial responsibility. Related experience may be substituted for the degree on an equivalent time basis.
